Explain your feelings after this first week of class and establish one learning goal for the course.
This first week of class was difficult. Think about where I come from; I finished with my masters and got my certificate for teacher and then finish student teaching and the only thing I am set upon now is finding a job. But wait, I still need to do classes. I am try to be honest, and doing classes when I’ve already gotten my certificate when I have more important things to do doesn’t give me the incentive to do these classes. However, I am also respectful for my professors and fellow educators. So of course I’m going to do the work but the passion fire of doing it has been smothered by other important tasks. I would say an important learning goal for me throughout these next few weeks is to be dedicated to the work and be able to turn things on time without upsetting too many people.
Describe your initial thoughts about the tool, Slack. Do you see how it could be used in your own teaching practice? How might you use it, or why might you not use it?
I see Slack as just another form of Teams. A form a social media that does not spark interest in most children. Both are very useful tools to use with your classroom but in reality the students really going to check this? If it’s not a text message or a Snapchat are they really going to care what we have to say on this. In my experience students do not answer emails or check notifications for teams. Is made my life difficult since they do not take their education seriously. I don’t know what other teachers felt like but I would like to ask my fellow Rogers teachers and ask their input on this matter.
Share one question or concern you have about the class.
I already set the stage for me saying that being a graduate and already doing the work seems to contradict each other, so do other teachers feel the same way or strongly disagree? I would like to know.

ReplyDeleteHi Christian!
DeleteI just read your blog post and yes! It is very mentally challenging to come back to another quarter of classes -- especially such writing intensive ones as the other 2 classes are. This class is exciting to me as I feel weakest in Media Literacy. I appreciate the exposure to possibilities and options for integrating tech into the classroom. I want to ensure that it is profitable for me and students and not just another thing on the list!
Sorry you are a bit frustrated -- I know you can make it! Almost there!
Be so proud of your accomplishments! Your perseverance will pay off!
Roxanne :)
Hi Christian!
ReplyDeleteI understand the frustration. I have talked about how hard it is to get a taste of teaching and having that job without classes, and then having to go back to being a student for four weeks. We're so close! It is interesting to hear you say that social media like Slack does not spark excitement in a lot of students. As you know I student taught in first grade, so I did not get to see what technology works well and what does not with older students, as we keep it pretty simple. I appreciate your last question. What a tough little transition period. Just remember you have peers to support you! :)
